Ikea lovers, (maybe) the bag for you has arrived! It is branded Balenciaga and is inspired by the most famous blue shopping bag in the world, but here’s how much it costs!
Just as the news of the blue shopper tote bag by Balenciaga, in recent days, had gone around the world, sparking hilarity and inevitable comparisons with the legendary blue bag Frakta Ikea, the hilarious response of IKEA has become immediately viral.
In fact, IKEA did not miss the opportunity to ride the news and, together with the creative agency ACNE, created this “guide” in which it explains how to distinguish the original Frakta from imitations:
- If it makes a deafening swoosh, it’s the real thing.
- It can carry field hockey equipment, bricks and even water.
- Ccan simply be rinsed with a garden hose when it’s dirty.
Yep, look at the price: the blue Balenciaga bag costs $2,145. Never as in this case is definitely better the original!
When we go to do our shopping at Ikea, the blue bag appears to our eyes as a kind of salvation! Every time we run away a little ‘too much hand and, if there was not our beloved blue shopping bag, it would take myriad of envelopes and various bags. Certainly it would be the ideal size of our everyday bag, overflowing with objects (all very useful, yes yes as not).
In short, we realized that Mary Poppins is a no-brainer and that she too would get lost in the black hole of our bags, but… our dream of having a mega bag, maybe even bigger than that of the magical Disney nanny, has come true (or maybe not).
Fashion is fashion. It wouldn’t be so if it wasn’t quirky, extravagant and peculiar. If on the one hand we couldn’t imagine leaving the house with the blue Ikea bag, on the other hand all it takes is for an established brand to come up with the idea of making it the must-have item of the season to be worn by those who never miss the latest trends.
You will all know Balenciaga, the French fashion house founded by Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga. The well-known brand has seen fit to “copy” Ikea by creating a new bag (almost) identical to its blue shopper. The only difference – not exactly the only one, but certainly the most obvious – is the price: if the Ikea Frakta costs 60 cents, the new “very original” bag signed Balenciaga costs “only” … 1,750 euros (about 2000 dollars).
A shameless case of copying or a simple coincidence? Let’s just say it’s… an homage.
We know how famous Ikea is all over the world thanks to its exceptional design when it comes to items like sofas, lamps and bedding. But you certainly can’t say that it can be inspirational when it comes to bags. Could it have been its iconic and very bright blue color and its nice big size that inspired the French company?
Indeed the similarity is evident: same color, same size and same double handles. The only differences? The lack of the Ikea logo (and it seemed obvious), the “slightly” higher price and the material: the Ikea bag is made of 100% polypropylene, a recyclable material, while the Balenciaga bag was made of pure leather.
